Although small in size, Lake Arrowhead Christian School made a big imprint in its first middle school track season. Coach Renee Wetzel led a team of 10 Eagles into competition against 29 other schools (and hundreds of athletes) this spring. All of them experienced difficult challenges and made good memories.
The team featured five fifth-grade student-athletes who competed against seventh and eighth-graders in each meet. Audrey Coe, Audrey Ewert, Athena Gayton, Jameson Padilla and Allie Wetzel comprised the fifth-grade students on the Eagles’ roster. The team also had seventh-graders Ashton Guerich and Sadie Pattison, while eighth-graders Elizabeth Tallman, Mackenzie Warford and Madison Warford provided team leadership.

Many of the kids had standout individual performances and qualified for the Woodcrest Christian Championship meet: Athena Gayton qualified in the girls 400 meters with a personal-best (PB) time of 1:15.25. Ashton Guerich qualified in the boys 800 (PB 2:40.54) and 300 hurdles (PB 57.44). Sadie Pattison qualified in the girls 200 (PB 31.20) and 400 (PB 1:12.72). Mackenzie Warford qualified in the girls 800 (PB 2:56.24) and 300 hurdles (PB 1:04.54). Madison Warford qualified in the girls 100 (PB 15.15) and 100 hurdles (PB 22.48). Allie Wetzel qualified in the girls 800 (PB 2:52.77) and 1600 (PB 6:17.57). Audrey Coe, Audrey Ewert, Athena Gayton, Sadie Pattison, Elizabeth Tallman, Allie Wetzel and both Warford sisters participated on relay teams at the championships.
“Our LACS kids loved their first track season. One of them even found a new favorite sport,” remarked Coach Wetzel. “They did an amazing job this season and I’m excited to continue this program with our LACS kids in the future!”
