The San Moritz Lodge was swinging on June 6 with a fantastic evening of dancing and classic music by such artists as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, Dion, Frankie Valle, performed by Michael Gonzales and Aidan Lynch, and sponsored by the Crest Forest Senior Citizens’ Club (CFSCC).
Sip and Soiree was a perfect opportunity to dress up in some dressy clothing… in that era’s jargon you may even say they were “dressed to the nines.” Smiles were everywhere, because as you know, you are never fully dressed without one.
The price for the evening at the San Moritz was excellent, too, at $5 for members of the CFSCC and $15 for non-members, and all community members were welcome to this event which lasted from 5 to 8:30 p.m. The vibe was a cool bar at cocktail hour, supplemented by a silent auction of numerous items: hotel stays, dinners at local restaurants and gourmet gift baskets. The funds raised will support the expenses of the SFSCC.

One of the evening’s coordinators, Vicki Vargas, works the crowd while Gonzales and Lynch take a short break behind her.
Food and drink was included in the price, such as sandwiches from Goodwin’s and Jensen’s and lots of veggies and dips. A variety of drinks poured by Andrew from the Bear Claw kept everyone refreshed. With the tall cocktail tables and larger round and rectangular tables, everyone had a place to sit in-between dances.
One of the highlights was a wonderful dance show by Steve Valentine with Cecilia Ponce de Leon that inspired everyone to fill the dance floor for the rest of the evening.
The CFSCC offers activities at Leisure Shores for the community’s seniors ages 50 and above, five days a week, such as yoga, art, science and philosophy clubs, Bunco and other games, bowling and lessons such as Spanish and P.E.A.R.L.S., the program that helps seniors cope with the changes of getting older. The club also sponsors the Tuesday and Thursday nutrition lunches at the San Moritz Lodge at 11:45 a.m. for those 60 and above. They also have started a new Benevolence Fund that is designed to help those seniors financially who encounter an emergency that other programs do not address. Membership in the club is $20 a year. For more information on the CFSCC, call the office between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays at (909) 338-5036.
This summer, the seniors have offered the parking lot at Leisure Shores as the location for the Friday Night Market at Lake Gregory, so the community can continue to enjoy the music, the vendors, the food trucks and more. The club likes to be an active and supportive part of the Crestline community. Be sure to look for the CFSCC float in the Jamboree Days Parade on July 4.
