The Whispering Winds

By Mary-Justine Lanyon

The sanctuary at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church was filled with flute music on Aug. 1 as The Whispering Winds – Rod Bailey, Lynette Vargyas Buschser, Dee Ogden, Theresa Ogden and Laura Haigh – played music ranging from Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” to “Hedwig’s Theme” from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. “We play together for the friendship of it, Haigh said.

The musicians demonstrated the various types of flute they play, including the alto and bass flutes.

The concert was part of a free summer concert series presented by the Arrowhead Arts Association. The final concert will take place on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 4 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. It will feature Whist Duo – a piano and flute duo.

Other upcoming events include the Fall Festival on Sept. 20 and AAA’s gala on Oct. 11. For more information, visit arrowheadarts.org.
