Man found stabbed at home dies at hospital — Suspects arrested for murder
On Monday, Aug. 3, at about 10:37 a.m., deputies from Highland were dispatched to a residence in the 7600 block of Elm Street for a report of a stabbing.
When they arrived, they located the victim, Samuel Canales, 33, inside a detached secondary home on the property. Canales had been stabbed and was transported to a hospital, where he died shortly after.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail responded and assumed the investigation. Detectives identified two suspects, Brian Anthony Huidor, 27 of San Bernardino, and Angel Santiago Macias, 23 of Highland. Macias was later located in Highland and taken into custody.
On Tuesday, Aug. 4, the Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division located Huidor at a residence in San Bernardino and took him into custody.
Both suspects were booked at the Central Detention Center for murder and remain in custody.

Boating accident sends one person to hospital
On Monday, Aug. 3, at approximately 3:50 p.m., deputies from the Big Bear Station responded to the 400 block of Pine Knot Avenue regarding an unknown-injury boat collision. The collision had occurred approximately 10 minutes earlier in the middle of Big Bear Lake.
Two adult males rented jet skis from a local marina. While they were on their way to the marina to return the jet skis, one of the men was traveling behind the other when a wave struck them. The first male turned left to avoid the wave, but the second male stopped, causing the jet ski to collide with the right side of the second jet ski.
One of the men, a resident of Oakhurst, suffered a fractured leg as a result of the collision and was transported by Big Bear Fire to Bear Valley Community Hospital for treatment.
No other vessels or witnesses were identified during the investigation.
