With Thanksgiving just over a month away, it’s time for folks to think about volunteering at the free community dinner, sponsored by the Crestline-Lake Gregory Rotary Club.
The website created by Robert Block is up and running – crestlinethanksgiving.com. There you can choose the time slot when you are available to help out.
We need volunteers on Wednesday, Nov. 25 to prep some of the food, including bagging up rolls and butter and spooning cranberry sauce into little containers. They will also get the to-go line ready for the meals that will be delivered Thanksgiving morning. You can request delivery of meals on the same website.
The crew from Lake Gregory Church will once again be manning the fryers and Chef Fred Keville has the smoker covered.
We will need folks on Thanksgiving morning to carve and break down the cooked turkeys, cut the pies (so generously donated by Goodwin’s Market) and prepare the drinks. Once the doors are open at noon, we will need volunteers to serve the food and drinks and bus the tables. And of course we’ll need dishwashers.
At the end of the day, we all pitch in to clean up the Lodge and leave it in even better condition than we found it.
Is it work? Sure – but more than that, it’s fun. There is a tremendous sense of camaraderie among the volunteers
and the guests. We have found over the years that most people attend the dinner to celebrate with folks they’ve known for a long time and with friends they meet that day.
Donations are always welcome and may be made on the same website, crestlinethanksgiving.com.
We hope to see you at the dinner – either as a volunteer or as a guest.
