A disruption of normal activities at Rim of the World High School occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, resulting in the immediate arrival of multiple law enforcement agencies. At the same time, several hundred students, teachers and school officials assembled at the school’s main entrance and parents were reportedly being notified of the ongoing disturbance.

Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Twin Peaks Station, responded to Rim High following multiple 911 calls originating from the campus. During one of the calls, a voice was overheard asking for help. Responding deputies immediately activated high priority, emergency protocols, placed the campus on lockdown and initiated a plan for a systematic search of the campus.

During the search, deputies received information indicating two students may have called 911 from the school’s landlines when there was no emergency. The students were located, identified and escorted to the school administration office. Once the campus was rendered safe, all staff and students were released from the lockdown.

Following the investigation, one student was issued a criminal citation for PC 148.3 (False Report of an Emergency) and PC 182 (Conspiracy). The second student was cited for PC 182 (Conspiracy). Both students were released into the custody of their legal guardians.

Anyone with information about the investigation (Case No. 052600661) is asked to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Twin Peaks Station, at (909) 336-0600. Callers wishing to remain anonymous should call or text REPORT to We-Tip at (844) 909-3006. Online reporting is also available at https://mobile.catapultems.com/sbcsd/Sites.

On Wednesday, Oct. 14, Jackee Benson, the school district’s community outreach coordinator, sent the district’s official statement to the Alpine Mountaineer:

The Rim of the World Unified School District’s highest priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of all students and staff.

On Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, law enforcement received multiple 911 calls originating from a Rim High School classroom. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded immediately, and the school implemented lockdown procedures. Following an investigation, authorities confirmed that students and staff were safe and determined that the calls were false reports intended to disrupt the school environment.

Today, Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, law enforcement officials are on campus reviewing safety protocols with staff and conducting a student assembly to discuss the incident, reinforce safety procedures and emphasize the seriousness and potential consequences of threats, inappropriate jokes or comments involving school safety.

Additionally, Mountain Counseling and Rim Family Services will be on campus to provide emotional support and counseling resources for students and staff affected by the incident.
The ROWUSD sincerely appreciates the swift response of law enforcement, first responders and school personnel. We remain committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment for all.
