Sheriff’s Feast for Families feeds those in need

By DOUGLAS W. MOTLEY
Senior Writer

The folks at the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station fed 16 families, who otherwise would have gone without a traditional Christmas dinner, at their annual Feast for Families on Thursday, Dec. 22.
According to Sheriff’s Service Specialist Lyndsi Solomon, 21 families had signed up for the annual event, now in its 11th year. Many of those who couldn’t make it to the sheriff’s station had meals delivered to their homes.
This year’s meals consisted of a ham certificate from Jensen’s market, holiday sides purchased by the sheriff’s station and prepared for pick up by Stater Bros. market, as well as frozen chicken and other non-perishables from the Twin Peaks seniors and the Mom and Dad Project.
Thirty children, ranging from infants to teens, got a chance to talk to Santa Claus and receive toys provided by the California Highway Patrol’s CHiPs for Kids toy drive. Firefighters from County Fire Station 26 arrived and helped load items into families’ vehicles. Other toys and gifts provided by the Lake Gregory Yacht Club and local churches were brought to the station by local citizens, some of whom donated cash that was used for gift cards.
In addition, members of the Mom and Dad Project provided food and toys and diapers and helped out during the event, as did members of Citizens on Patrol (COPS), who prepared meals, brought toys and helped out during the event, which ran from 4 to 8 p.m.
