More than 25 “artists” enjoyed the Paint and Sip event offered at the Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa on June 10.
Molly Collins, who has been offering her Passion for Painting seminars since 2016, guided the participants – many of whom were first-time painters – through the activity which took place in the lounge area at the entrance to BIN189.
The wine was flowing, helping nervous painters release their inhibitions, and the included hors d’oeuvres were tasty. There were many local residents who attended, as well as visitors who were staying at the hotel from as far away as Ohio, Northern California and Palm Desert.
Collins supplies all the materials, including a stretched canvas, brushes and the paints needed to create the painting. For this event, she had the participants create a scene of the lake with a silhouetted tree on the front shore and mountains behind it in colors of peach and yellow. Each artist painted with their own style with Collins’ guidance.
Collins and her helpers flowed among the painters, giving suggestions when wanted and demonstrating techniques for tree branches, leaves, brush strokes and painting quick steps. Encouragement was the vibe all evening long and shouts of “Cheers!” were heard as many of the paintings were held up for all to see. This acrylic paint class lasted just slightly over two hours, and the paintings were dry enough for the painters to take with them at the end.
Several attendees were heard to comment, “I didn’t think I could paint anything this wonderful; it will definitely be displayed in my office/home” and “I am so happy I came here tonight.”
Collins has an art gallery and studio in Crestline, located at 24002 Lake Drive, where she gives lessons, tea parties and much more. Contact her at (909) 436-8461 or online at Mollysartgallery.com.
