In his general manager’s report at the Aug. 24 meeting of the Arrowhead Lake Association board of directors, Mike Pate said the association’s taking over of the restaurant at the marina has been delayed.

“We thought we had the final inspection on Aug. 19,” he said. But apparently ALA is considered the new owners of the building and the county is resetting the standards. They want a different floor and a new grease pit, Pate said. “We won’t open this season but we’re close to being finished,” he added.

Pate also shared the good news that while ALA had allocated $100,000 in the capital expense budget to refurbish the restaurant, they were able to purchase all new equipment for under $20,000.

There was a failure, Pate reported, of the Burnt Mill lift pump. “No sewage made it into the lake. We dodged a bullet,” he added.

In additional good news, the GM said – the new Lake Safety boat had arrived. It was budgeted for $200,000 but came in at just over $100,000.

The board approved an amount not to exceed $185,000 for repairs to be made to Access 7 by Bob’s Beach. Director Jim Hannon showed a video of water cascading down the steps, flowing across the path and bringing with it silt and rocks. “It’s almost like a log ride coming down the stairs,” he said. This uncontrolled flow has undermined the stairs. In addition, the pipe under the beach has been breached.

The directors chose to divide the project in two, approving repairs to the upper access area to be done immediately. They asked to have some engineering done to ensure the silt basin and drainage work are done properly. “I would like to direct Mike (Pate) with board approval to retain an engineer to confirm what we’re doing will handle the problem we’re dealing with,” said President Alan Kaitz.

“There are two main approaches for the lower portion,” Pate said, adding they hadn’t “landed on which will be most effective. The upper portion is straightforward.”

In a report for the Lake Operations and Maintenance Committee, Chandra Olivas showed before and after photos of work that had been done – a bridge that was added at Access 3 to cross over some rocks; a ditch created at Access 6 to redirect water flow. QR codes are being added to the access posts so members can send messages of work that needs to be done directly to Olivas.

Olivas also reported that the lake weed had been treated. “The lake has dropped 1-1/2 feet so we’re seeing the lake weed,” she said. Members can pick up rakes at the office to rake the dead weeds out of their dock areas.

Election update

Later in the afternoon of Aug. 24, the candidates for seats on the board held a meet and greet at the marina. Members enjoyed hot dogs – expertly grilled by Wayne Austin – chips and soda while chatting with the candidates.

The candidates are as follows:

• North District: Andy Sedlak, Kelly Wallace, Chris Wilson

• At Large B: Gary Clifford, Marilyn Dishell

• Grass Valley District: Eran Heissler, TJ Imholte

Members were to have received their ballots by Sept. 1; the deadline to complete voting is 5:00 p.m. on Sept. 16, when the inspector of elections will announce the results.
