First Friday at The Lake House not only features the work of exceptional artists but also benefits local charities, who receive a portion of the proceeds.

The First Friday event on Nov. 1 will feature the work of Michael Utterback and Irma Redman.

Utterback moved to Lake Arrowhead at the age of 13. Since then he has developed his woodworking skills, building things out of whatever he had.

Honing his skills at the Art Institute, he began developing his own style using reclaimed materials including wine barrels. The wine barrel furniture became very popular with friends and family who, in turn, encouraged him to sell his creations.

Redman has had a lifelong interest in glass art and jumped at the chance to take a glass workshop at UCR 25 years ago. She learned technique to create leaded glass windows, then learned the copper foil technique and has now become an expert in this technique.

She later taught herself mosaic glass art and, after a trip to a glass gallery in San Diego, she fell in love with glass fusion.

Each month Robin Lyles, owner of The Lake House, donates a portion of the proceeds from the event to a mountain nonprofit. The Mountains Community Hospital Foundation will be the Nov. 1 beneficiary.

Stop by The Lake House from 4 to 7 p.m. to enjoy some appetizers, wine and fine art on Oct. 4. Chat with the artists, learn more about the Mountains Community Hospital Foundation and catch up with your neighbors.

The Lake House is located at 28966 Hook Creek Road in Cedar Glen. Call (909) 337-7676 or visit www.LakeHouseCollection.com for more information.
