During a major incident – such as a wildfire – San Bernardino County Fire and the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department use the Telephone Emergency Notification System or TENS to send high-speed mass notifications by telephone and text messages.
This system helps residents get critical updates, such as evacuation information, as quickly as possible.
The county uses a database of landline telephone numbers, which is updated every six months, to send emergency messages to landlines. Residents may also receive emergency text messages on their cell phones by signing up at oes.sbcounty.gov or by calling (909) 356-3998.
TENS alerts do not generally go out to the entire county but are targeted to affected areas. Residents will receive alerts for their local area by entering a valid San Bernardino County street address.
By signing up for TENS, residents can stay informed, stay prepared and ensure they are ready for an emergency.
