Well, here we are in the middle of January and no rain. Who’d-a-thunk-it? Nothing but fires, burning like hell and nothing but death and destruction all over the place. Thank goodness not at my place, or yours, I hope.
A year ago, we were swimming with atmospheric rivers, bomb cyclones, rain and snow. We could sure use some precipitation right about now because, according to the experts, we’re having a water shortage.
According to the weather prognosticators – Evelyn Taft, Amber Lee and Dallas Raines (cool name, Dallas) – we’re in the midst of an epic drought that just won’t quit. The last epic drought hit us in 2012 and lasted five years.
Why, you ask, is this happening to us now? It’s merely global warming. I know there are deniers, but you better believe it…oops, there goes another Arctic ice cap.
Back in ’76, the prognosticators of weather suggested that we put bricks in our toilet tanks to reduce the amount of water we flush down the drain. Due to the filth that washed off the bricks, others suggested filling two-quart bottles with rocks and sand to displace the water. My suggestion is to shower with a friend, it’s more fun…ahem, don’t tell my wife I said that.
Have you ever tried singing in the shower? It’s kinda’ like singing in the rain. And, because my shower has excellent acoustics, I do it all the time. OK, so I’m no Andrea Bocelli (strange name for a man), but I’m almost as good as Gene Kelly.
I’m singin’ in the rain, just singin’ in the rain. What a glorious feeling, I’m happy again. I’m laughing at clouds so dark above, the sun’s in my heart and I’m ready for love. Let the stormy clouds chase everyone from the place. Come on with the rain, I’ve a smile on my face. I’ll walk down the lane with a happy refrain, and singin,’ just singin’ in the rain.
(“Singin’ in the Rain” – Gene Kelly – 1952)
I’m not much of a dancer, like Gene Kelly, but did go to a cotillion class when I was about 12 years old. It was there that I learned how to ballroom dance, waltz, cha, cha, cha and tap dance without taps. You might say I was trippin’ the light fandango. Oh, and they also taught us proper etiquette. Later, when I was in high school, I learned how to do the surfer stomp. That’s about all I know how to do nowadays.

Keep on singin’ and dancin’ in the rain and, by all means…
Keep it flyin’,
Uncle Mott
