Last month’s 67th annual Grammy Awards presentation had its ups and downs. Spiraling downward, in my humble opinion, were the excessive number of obnoxious rappers singing rap (rhymes with…lots of things, like nap, which I felt like taking, but I persevered and continued watching). Actually, some of their fancy dancers weren’t so bad.
A highlight for me was the fancy dancin’ by Sabrina, who went bouncing across the stage, strutting her stuff with all the other fancy dancers. I must say, she sure has nice skin, lots of it. No nappin’ for this boy!
Just a small-town girl, livin’ in a lonely world, she took the midnight train going anywhere… some’ll win, some will lose, some are born to sing the blues. Streetlight people, livin’ just to find emotion, hidin’ somewhere in the night. (“Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey – 1981)
Though she was nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Album of the Year and Best Remixed Recording, she ended up with Grammys for Best Pop Solo Performance and best Pop Vocal Album. Hope I’m not boring you.
Garnering top honors for Album of the Year was Beyoncé, who also has “nice skin.” “Alright, Uncle Mott, get your mind out of the gutter.” So, what’s next? The Oscars, I suppose.
Seriously, though, if you ever get a chance, visit the Grammy Museum, located at 800 Olympic Boulevard in beautiful, downtown Los Angeles…Just kidding, you’ll need to dodge dozens of homeless encampments as you walk from the parking garage to the museum, which is an interactive, educational museum devoted to the history of Grammy winners. Once there, you will be given earphones to wear as you encounter the scores of video displays, featuring major recording artists performing their Grammy Award-winning songs. My personal favorite was an entire Cheech & Chong movie. If I remember correctly, it was Up in Smoke.
If you get hungry while you’re there, you will find a number of fine eateries within the same building such as Flemings’s Prime Rib Steakhouse, Shaquille’s, Fixins Soul Kitchen, Lazy Dog Restaurant and Bar and Smashburger… Bon Appetit!
Keep it flyin’,
Uncle Mott
