Lake Gregory Yacht Club celebrated its 2025 season opening on Saturday, June 7 by hosting an outdoor ceremony at the Crest Forest Senior Center. The event featured welcome-back greetings from current members and the welcoming of new members to this club, which is now celebrating its 21st year.
Current yacht club Fleet Captain Henry Johnson began the ceremony by announcing the names of longtime members who had passed away over the past year. Staff Commodore Marlyn Dinon spoke next about what to expect in the coming year.
A speech by Staff Commodore Marsha Phillipe, who thanked all of the club’s volunteers, was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer, led by Staff Commodore Doug Howardell.
Howardell then introduced the Mountain Fifes & Drums Corps, which entertained the crowd with a series of musical numbers, including “Yankee Doodle Dandy.” Next came a reading of major historical events of the American Revolutionary War era, including the signing of the Treaty of Paris and the creation of a new nation, free from British rule.
The event concluded with a luncheon inside the senior center.
