Detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, on Friday, January 23, arrested the estranged husband of a Newport Beach woman in connection with the death of a previously unidentified woman found deceased in the vicinity of Highway 138 and Crestline Cutoff, near the Burrtec Mountain Disposal building, back in November.

After the victim, Aryan Papoli, a 58-year-old, resident of Newport Beach, was identified, detectives conducted an extensive and persistent investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. During the investigation, detectives identified Gordon Abas Goodarzi, a 66-year-old resident of Rolling Hills as Papoli’s estranged husband, and a suspect in the victim’s homicide.

Following a complete review of the autopsy results, the coroner determined the manner of death to be homicide.

On Friday January 23, 2026, through a continued and diligent investigation, Goodarzi was contacted at his residence and later arrested. Goodarzi was transported to the Sheriff’s Central Detention Center in San Bernardino, where he was booked for murder and held without bail.

From a previous news article back in November, the alleged Jane Doe was found on November 18, 2025, about 75 feet down a steep embankment in the area of Highway 138 and Crestline Road in the San Bernardino County mountain community of Crestline.

Sheriff’s officials initially said she showed signs of “injuries consistent with a fall.” However, she was later identified as Aryan Papoli. A Coroner’s autopsy determined the death to be a homicide, however, investigators did not disclose how the victim was killed.
