The Gathering Place, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead, will host a free Fraud & Scam Prevention and Awareness Workshop for adults on Saturday, June 6, at the Lake Arrowhead Community Presbyterian Church.
The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. (doors open at 9:45 a.m.) and will provide practical, easy-to-understand tools to help participants recognize, avoid and respond to the growing number of scams targeting older adults.
Topics will include common phone and online scams, identity theft, digital payment safety (including Venmo and Zelle), Medicare and insurance-related scams and what to do if you are targeted. The focus of the class is not on memorizing every scam, but on learning how to recognize patterns and respond with confidence.
This community-focused program brings together a strong group of local partners, including the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, California Bank & Trust, Mountains Community Hospital, Rim Family Services and HRBC Insurance, along with local specialists providing additional support and resources for seniors.
“This class is about confidence, not fear,” said Joy Patrick Eckert, founder of The Gathering Place. “You don’t need to know every scam – you just need to know what to look for.”
The workshop is free and open to the community. Registration is encouraged but not required; all attendees will be welcomed.
The Gathering Place is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating connection, education and support for older adults in the Lake Arrowhead community. For more information or to register, visit www.LakeArrowheadGatheringPlace.org.
