On any given Wednesday, the community room in the Skilled Nursing Facility at Mountains Community Health is filled with music.

For the past year, local musician Dale Fisher has been sharing his talent on the keyboard with the residents. On a recent Wednesday, he was joined by several other musicians for a jam unlike any other.

The music gets started at about 10 a.m. and continues until noon when the musician or musicians enjoy lunch with the residents.

Playing with Fisher were Greg Siples on trumpet; Jacklyn MacLaren, ukelele; Kenny Pierson, drums; Jonathan Guffey, sax; Andrea Massey, trombone; Jason McIntyre, electric guitar; Paul Weiss, bass; Kimberly Fry, guitar; and Steve Smith, guitar and vocals.

“The music program has been the most loved activity in the Skilled Nursing Facility for over 14 years,” said Cheri Altmeyer, the activities director, “but it was struggling to stay alive. We are very blessed to have new musician volunteers taking the reins. It is truly an important part of the facility.”

“Everyone is welcome,” said Fisher. “To sing, play along with charts or just enjoy the music.”
