Celebrating art and friendship
First Fridays at The Lake House are a celebration of friendship and fine art. Join this month’s featured artists – Ghislaine Gargaro and Julia Aubrey – on Oct. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m.
While visiting with the artists and admiring their work, guests can enjoy some beverages and hors d’oeuvres.
Gargaro graduated from Laval University in Quebec City. After a successful career as a nurse and nursing manager, art became her main focus. She studied design and drawing at Santa Monica City College. She has studied with many master artists. Her work hangs in a number of private and public collections. She and her husband are part-time residents of Lake Arrowhead.
Aubrey is a native of the Inland Empire. While her four children were in their teens, she took some tole painting classes, which she found to be very rewarding. While living in Yuma, Ariz., Aubrey discovered a gourd creation of three Kachinas and fell in love.
After moving to Crestline in 2006, Aubrey was encouraged by her family to start painting again. In 2010 she began using gourds as her canvas. She has taught herself to wood burn, carve and weave on gourds. She uses acrylics, dyes, colored pencils, beads, and materials found in nature to accent her art.
Ten percent of all sales during the First Friday event will be donated this month to the Mountains Community Hospital Foundation.
The Lake House is located at 28966 Hook Creek Road in Cedar Glen. For more information, call (909) 337-7676 or visit www.lakehousecollection.com.
