Former mountain resident Jim Brown, who was born on April 4, 1955, passed away in Romania on October 9, 2022.
Jim spent many years as a teacher and then put his graphic design skills to work at the Mountain News for several years.
It was while working at the newspaper that he met Arina Gar on the dance floor at a summer concert in Lake Arrowhead Village. After spending hours dancing together, the two became a couple and began discussing plans for his retirement.
Since Arina had been born in Romania, she and Jim made the decision to retire to her homeland when he retired. They made that move five years ago, settling in Brasov. Soon after their move, Arina and Jim were married.
On the mountain, Jim was an active participant in a social group known as the Sunday Jammers. He continued his love of music and playing with others in Romania, often gathering with his new friends there. Some of those gatherings in Romania were at his and Arina’s home, others were at local bars.
In addition to Arina, Jim is survived by his daughter, Jennifer, and his granddaughter Cordelia.
Jennifer and Jim’s friends on the mountain are organizing a celebration of his life, which they hope to hold in November. The date and location will be announced when available.
