Cosmic Comics

The Garcia Center of the Arts is happy to announce the third Cosmic Comics event at the Garcia Center on Saturday, Sept. 16, from noon to 6 pm. Several cartoonists and creators will be on hand to talk with the fans and sell their creations. This is a good opportunity to meet and talk to some great artists and creators. Cosplay is welcome at the event.

There will be free raffle drawings throughout the day, with prizes donated by the artists. Birdcage Comics Café will be donating lunches while supplies last.

Artists will be coming to the event from all over Southern California, as well as from Mexico. Three of the participating artists are from the mountains. Lake Arrowhead resident Phil Ortiz has been a character designer for animated cartoons including The Simpsons. Some of the notable characters Ortiz designed for the Simpsons include Flanders, Otto, Herman, Lou and Eddie, Ralph and Apu. Arrowbear resident Sabro Foster is an educator and artist who has created a world of color and emotion, where lonely robots experience a world with awe, fascination and expression. He is the author of When Robot Lost His Human. Running Springs resident Phil Yeh is the creator of The Winged Tiger and Frank the Unicorn and founder of Cartoonists Across America & the World, an association of artists who work together to paint community murals and to speak on behalf of literacy issues.

Other participating artists are Rafael Navarro; David G. Brown; Jesus ‘El Kartun’ Pedroza; Dave Garcia; Isabel Quintero; Melina Chavarria; Stephytoons; Dr. Dawn Menge; Dr. Greg McWhorter; Allen Carter; Jevin Loop; Tara Avery; Stacked Deck Press; Sitcomics Binge Books; Robert Jacka; David Moreno; Sketchy Bugs; Sable Nance; Denise Carrillo; Fizzma; Rintage; Javier Gonzalez; Hyde Hermit Studios; NARCOMEY Art; Robert W Zailo; Joseph Krejci; Rick Lopez; Rory Murray; Shelley Larkin; and Birdcage Bottom Books.
