Participants in the Kitchen & International Tasting Tour – sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead and held on Oct. 7 – traveled the world without leaving the five fabulous host kitchens.

It was Scandinavia at Lorna Polley’s home where guests enjoyed open-faced sandwiches topped with smoked salmon and shrimp and Sand Kaker cookies, made from an old family recipe in 100-year-old tart pans. The food was prepared under the direction of Laura MacFarlane Donohoo.

Bem vindo was the greeting at Ronda and Jay Rynda’s home, which was transformed into Portugal. Guests feasted on a Portuguese bean soup with linguica and pasateis de nata, Portuguese custard tarts.

Argentinian beef and shrimp were prepared by the volunteers at Jeanne and Barry Hou’s home.

Out on the patio at Spade & Spatula, Kitchen Tour guests were treated to spicy lentil soup, accompanied by homemade naan.

As in past years, guests enjoyed a glass of wine during the last hour of the tour.

The proceeds from the tour are used by the Rotary club for scholarships and community projects on the mountain, as well as humanitarian projects around the world.
