Overcoming stress following an emergency

Oct 18, 2023 | Health

A workshop entitled “Building Hope, Resilience and Compassion in Times of Stress” will be offered on Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This training is being offered by the Lake Arrowhead Community Presbyterian Church to help citizens and first responders learn how to deal with stress and trauma during emergencies and recover.

Mountain residents experienced stress during and following last winter’s massive snowstorms with being unable to leave their homes and then discovering damage to those homes.

In this workshop, participants will explore some of the ways the challenges and stresses of our work can affect us, including compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress and burnout with a focus on enhancing our ability to respond in healthy ways to stress.

Strategies will be shared that can help in preventing or reducing these effects, including relaxation and resilience-building tools, mindfulness and sharing our stories with trusted others. Participants will also spend time with compassion satisfaction and the ways our work and other aspects of our lives can bring joy and growth.

Those who are interested in attending should register at https://pda.wufoo.com/forms/rwn93bc15eo3i8/.

Lake Arrowhead Community Presbyterian Church is located at 351 South State Hwy 173 in Lake Arrowhead.
