February is Lions International Food Drive month, so the Crestline Lions will spend Feb. 10 both collecting and donating food locally.

Lions Club President Catherine Johnson told the Alpine Mountaineer that they will have two locations that Saturday involved in the food drive and food distribution day.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 10, one group of Lions Club members will be outside the doors at Jensen’s Finest Foods Market in Blue Jay collecting food items from shoppers for the food drive. They will give a list of suggested items for shoppers as they walk in, hoping some will buy some items to donate to the food drive. Residents may also bring items from their home pantries to the store to donate to the Lions that day.

Shoppers who do not wish to buy food items may instead choose to donate funds, which will be immediately used to buy the needed food items that day.

Those food items that are donated and purchased will be taken to Crestline, where they will be donated that same day to those who need food. Each previous food collection and distribution day has been successful and beneficial for all involved.

The other half of the Lions Club members that Saturday will be set up at the North Shore parking lot at Lake Gregory in Crestline from noon to 3 p.m. There they will be distributing the collected items to those who need them. They encourage those who need basic food items to stop by and get some food that day.

This annual food distribution is something the Crestline Lions Club has done yearly since they were chartered. In past years, they have done this food collection at Goodwin’s Market.

The Crestline Lions Club will be celebrating their third anniversary in March, since their transition from a Lioness Club into a Lions Club. At their February meeting on the fourth Tuesday of the month at Leisure Shores Community Center, on the shore of Lake Gregory, they will be welcoming four new members.

For more information about becoming involved in the Lions Club or to talk to them about their eye exam and eyeglass service, contact President Johnson at cjj1949@yahoo.com or call her at (909) 338-5758.
