The sun was out when Crestline Comics cut the red ribbon for the grand opening of their new store in Crestline at 580 Forest Shade Road #10.

Kevin Gallareta was dressed as The Joker from Batman and the girls, Misty and Kira, were from Star Wars; they made quite a visual impact at Crestline Comics’ ribbon cutting ceremony in Crestline on May 4.
The owners, Tom Kellis and his son, Chris Kellis, were surrounded by many costumed players and actors, representing various comics, Star Wars, and the superhero world. It was quite the festive atmosphere, with face painting for kids or adults, a delicious food vendor and raffles, followed by trivia games and more. The ribbon cutting ceremony was coordinated by Tiffany of the Crestline Chamber of Commerce, with Jamboree Days coordinator Dirk Rinker and Chamber President Louis Boehle holding the ribbon.
Once inside Crestline Comics, there are several rooms filled with a wide selection of comic books for adults, teens and children, from action to horror and graphic novels for teens, even illustrated Grimm’s Fairy Tales and children’s books such as Nickelodeon and Disney Little Golden Books, as well as fully illustrated books like Winnie the Pooh and Kingstone illustrated Bible stories.
Another room has action figures, sculptures and products connected to the comic world that will delight the fans of DC comics, Marvel Universe, manga to superheroes and Star Wars and GI Joe figures, too. They have card games and trivia games for just about any related topic and they were hosting a survey to see what they should add to their inventory. They have card and board games for all ages, mostly related to the superhero universe or, for younger ones, the “Happy Little Dinosaurs” game. They have wall décor and more.
The ribbon cutting attracted about 200 people, many of whom stayed for the raffle and trivia contests. The store had a table of free comics for all to take and another table of Marvel comics for $2 each. The raffle had several very nice prizes. They were Star Wars-themed items, a waffle maker, a sandwich grill and a beautiful sculpture of a Mandalorian.
Comments from all the excited attendees was positive. Sierra Wilson, 17, was looking for Mandalorian items and Ryan, 6, was dressed as a Mandalorian, along with brother Luke, 2, who thought the whole event was “good.” Others thought it was the best thing to come to the mountain in years. “Finally, something for us cool or nerdy kids,” said one enthusiastic, costumed teen.
Crestline Comics is planning on having game nights and events this summer to engage the kids and public. They have rented the building next door for those game nights. Embrace your superhero at Crestline Comics, which will be open Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. all summer long. See their website, CrestlineComics.com, for upcoming events.
