CHOICES Program Success at Rim of the World Schools

May 15, 2024 | Editorial, Opinion

Dear Dr. Sevillano:

On behalf of the Lake Arrowhead Mountain Sunrise Rotary Club, I would like to thank you, the Rim of the World Unified School District, the principals of both the Rim of the World High School (Brian Willemse) and Mountain High School (Marina Amador), as well as their respective staff members who participated with us in the CHOICES program on March 26 and March 27, 2024, at Mountain High School and April 17 and 18, 2024, at Rim of the World High School.

We enjoyed the privilege of working with your fantastic staff for our presentation of the CHOICES program. The program, as you are aware, is presented over two days and involves the students coming up to the front of the class and participating in a series of exercises designed to reflect the real world. It emphasizes that, for every choice, there is a consequence and allows the students to determine how their decisions today will affect and impact their lives in the future.

Our instructors – Corina Colan, Laura Dyberg, Davis Hopper, Richard Miller and myself – have nothing but praise for the outstanding work on a daily basis that our own teachers provide to our students. We were able to observe, even on this limited basis, what a wonderful job the teachers, administrators and support staff do routinely as well as being impressed with our great students.

I believe our Rotary club agrees that we personally were more than rewarded by our participation with your district.

Special thanks as well to Stephanie Phillips who these many years has continued to coordinate this joint effort and act as liaison between the district and our rotary club.

Geoffrey Hopper

Chairperson,Lake Arrowhead Mountain Sunrise Rotary CHOICES program

Editor’s note: This letter was sent to Dr. Paul Sevillano, superintendent of the Rim of the World Unified School District
