Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

The article in the Oct. 3 edition of the paper on a candidate, Carlos Aguilera, made me wonder if there was only one candidate and therefore no choice in the race. His credentials are certainly impressive, but what about the others? Are there others? If there are others, then I would like to see more coverage on the other candidates. Candidates in non-partisan races don’t always have the resources to produce their own material to circulate or mail flyers to voters in these very large districts.

In the interest of making this a fair election, to prevent the appearance of favoritism and protect the neutrality of the paper in a political arena, it would seem that other candidates be afforded the same opportunity for this avenue of exposure that the paper so generously provides the general public, for the cost of a subscription. Other candidates should be given the same opportunity to express themselves, get their names out there and make their case as well.

The voters also benefit from more information, allowing them to make an informed decision on the candidate of their own choosing. May the best candidate win.

Equal opportunity promotes free and fair elections.

Sincerely,
