The San Bernardino Symphony is attempting to break the record for the highest number of piccoloists performing “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
The symphony, under the baton of Maestro Anthony Parnther, will present its annual concert under the stars, “America, the Beautiful” on Saturday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. on the football field at San Bernardino Valley College, located at 701 South Mt. Vernon Avenue. Piccolo players from all over the state are invited to participate in breaking the world record.
The current record was set on July 4, 2016, at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas with 189 piccolos.
“The dream for this endeavor,” said symphony piccoloist Kathleen Dyer, “came from a post by the Dallas Winds. When I saw they had done it, I knew we could, too!”
Nearly 100 piccoloists, both amateur and professional, have already registered to participate. But many more are needed to break the record. Interested musicians may obtain more information and register at www.sanbernardinosymphony.org.
Piccoloists who register, rehearse and participate will receive general admission tickets for themselves and their families.

SUPPORT A VETERAN
The symphony, in an effort to welcome more veterans than ever before to this annual event, invites folks to make a donation to enable those veterans to attend the concert.
“One of the highlights of this summer concert,” said Dr. Anne Viricel, the symphony’s executive director, “is the performance of the Armed Forces Medley where, traditionally, members of the branch of the service being recognized stand to the applause of the audience. “As the mother and mother-in-law of U.S. Army veterans, and as someone working in a city made strong by the work of our service personnel, this moment is something I look forward to every year.”
“I envision 1,000 veterans standing to the thunderous applause of an appreciative community,” said Donna Marie Minano, president of the symphony board. “Please consider supporting their participation in this memorable evening.”
Members of the public who wish to fund a $10 general admission ticket for one or more veterans may visit the symphony’s sponsorship page, click on “Click to make a gift” and select “Seats for service personnel” from the drop-down menu. All donations will be recognized at the July 6 concert and in concert program books for the following 12 months.
