Crestline man arrested for child sex crime
In June 2024, detectives in Twin Peaks began an investigation on suspect Tyler James Burke – 38, a resident of Crestline – after he was identified as a person who sexually victimized a child.
On Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, investigators, along with detectives from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Crimes Against Children Detail, served a search warrant at Burke’s residence in the 2400 block of Bernard Drive and recovered evidence related to the alleged crime of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 13.
Burke was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center.
Firearms and narcotics found in Green Valley Lake
On Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Twin Peaks Station, responded to a call for service in the 30000 block of Green Valley Lake Road in the community of Green Valley Lake. The reporting party advised there was an argument at the location with a male named Alfred Dean Roskovich, 40, a resident of Green Valley Lake.
Deputies contacted Roskovich during a traffic stop and found him in possession of a high-capacity ammunition magazine along with black gun powder. Roskovich was found to be a convicted felon prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition. Through investigation, deputies learned Roskovich was living at a residence in the 32000 block of Canyon Drive, Green Valley Lake, with Maribel Marquez, 35. A search warrant was served at the Canyon Drive address and associated locations where deputies seized several firearms including a confirmed stolen rifle, suspected methamphetamine, suspected psychedelic mushrooms, and recently stolen property from businesses near the Lake Arrowhead Village.
Roskovich was arrested for PC 29800 – Felon in Possession of a Firearm, PC 30305 – Illegal Possession of Ammunition, PC 487 – Grand Theft, PC 459 – Burglary, and PC 496 – Possession of Stolen Property. He was booked at the Central Detention Center in lieu of $150,000.00 bail.
Marquez was arrested for PC 496(d) – Possession of a Stolen Firearm and PC 11350 – Possession of Illegal Narcotics. She was booked at the Central Detention Center in lieu of $30,000.00 bail.
Blue Jay man arrested for possession of child pornography
On Thursday, Aug. 29, 2024, investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Twin Peaks Station, investigated allegations of possession and distribution of inappropriate Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) via the Internet. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) forwards CyberTips to local law enforcement agencies who investigate the allegations.
Investigators assigned to Twin Peaks Station executed the service of a search warrant at the home of Gilberto Vega, 27, in the 700 block of S. Old Toll Road, Blue Jay. Vega was the subject of multiple CyberTips forwarded to Twin Peaks Station for investigation. As a result of the investigation, Vega was arrested for violation of Penal Code section 311.11 – Possession of Internet Child Pornography. Vega was transported and booked at the Central Detention Center.
This investigation was forwarded to the Office of the District Attorney for review and filing. The investigation revealed Vega was actively interacting with underage females online, leading investigators to believe there may be additional victims. Vegas’s Instagram handle was OTGVPMW.
Suspects arrested with burglary tools in evacuated areas
On Saturday, September 7, 2024, Running Springs and Arrowbear Lake communities were placed on an evacuation order due to the Line Fire. Because of the evacuation order, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department supplemented the Twin Peaks Station with additional resources.
On Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., deputies from the Twin Peaks Station responded to a call for service in the 30000 block of Knoll View Drive in the Running Springs community, related to suspicious subjects casing several residences. Deputies contacted Thomas Leslie – 38, a resident of Running Springs – and Jason Rogerson – 51, a resident of Lake Arrowhead – whose clothing matched subjects seen on video surveillance, casing numerous homes in the area. Deputies detained Leslie and Rogerson to investigate and found they possessed burglary tools.
Leslie and Rogerson were arrested, transported and booked at Central Detention Center under charges of California Penal Code 182 (a) (1) – Conspiracy to Commit Residential Burglary.
Two suspects arrested for entering an evacuated area
In early September, the communities of Running Springs, Arrowbear Lake and Green Valley Lake were placed on an evacuation order due to the Line Fire. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department supplemented the Twin Peaks Station with additional county and mutual aid resources in response to the Line Fire.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, at approximately 2:00 a.m., members of the Rialto Police Department Mobil Field Force Unit attempted to stop an off-highway vehicle on CA-18 in Running Springs. A short time later, Robert Jones – 40, a resident of Crestline – and Jose Valdez-Roque – 35, a resident of Running Springs – abandoned their off-highway vehicle and were contacted near the intersection of Deep Creek Drive and CA-18 in Running Springs. Their off-highway vehicle was later located near the intersection where they were contacted.
Jones and Valdez-Roque were arrested, transported and booked at West Valley Detention Center on charges of California Penal Code 409.5 – Unauthorized Entry to a Closed Emergency Area. Their quad was towed because of their arrest.
Two men arrested for entering a closed emergency area in Big Bear
On Sept. 11, 2024, a Big Bear Lake homeowner evacuated due to the Line Fire threatening Big Bear Valley. On Sept. 12, 2024, at approximately 11:09 AM, deputies responded to a call from the homeowner reporting two subjects were trespassing on his property, located in the 700 block of Tulip Lane in Big Bear Lake.
Deputies arrived at the residence and found Andrew DeLeon, 31, and Manuel Hernandez, 46, both residents of Big Bear Lake, in the backyard of the property. Deputies learned DeLeon and Hernandez were stopped by California Highway Patrol and advised they could not enter the area. DeLeon and Hernandez then illegally entered the closed emergency area on foot and trespassed on the homeowner’s property, for which they were arrested.
Deputies locate $1.5 Million in marijuana during traffic stop
On Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, deputies conducted security patrols in the evacuated areas of the Bridge Fire in the city of Pinion Hills. As deputies patrolled the area, they observed a Chevrolet Suburban towing a trailer with no tail lights and flat tires near the intersection of Hollister Road.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, later identified as Asa Williams, 30, a resident of Bullhead City, Ariz. Williams was being followed by a second vehicle, acting as a lookout, being driven by Michael Marquez, 33, a resident of Pinon Hills. During the traffic stop, deputies smelled a strong odor of cannabis and inquired about the smell. Through investigation, deputies located approximately 500 processed marijuana plants in the trailer of the vehicle.
Investigators from the San Bernardino County Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) were advised and responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. During the course of the investigation, they developed information regarding a possible additional marijuana grow in the area. Investigators authored a search warrant for a residence located on the 1700 block of Trinity Road and served it without incident.
During the service of the search warrant, they located an indoor grow with over 700 marijuana plants and 1,300 pounds of processed marijuana. The estimated street value of the items recovered was approximately $1.5 M. Williams and Marquez were arrested for Conspiracy, Cultivation of Marijuana and Transportation and Sales of Marijuana and booked at the High Desert Detention Center without further incident.
Woman stranded during Bridge Fire taken to safety
On Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, at approximately 10:14 p.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department assigned to the Bridge Fire evacuation area in Wrightwood responded to a call for service involving a 78-year-old female resident who was stranded in her home in the 5500 block of Acorn Drive. The caller advised dispatch the elderly resident was not able to leave her home and did not have a vehicle.
Deputies assigned to the area conducting emergency evacuations responded to the call and located the frightened woman inside her home. Deputies assisted her by gathering some belongings, her pet cat and quickly escorted her to an emergency vehicle. Deputies transported her away from the danger area on fire behind her home and provided assistance, relocating her to safety.
The elderly woman was very appreciative for the help during a critical incident and thanked deputies for their quick response and presence in the area. Firefighters in the area were able to protect her home from the large fire headed toward her residence.
Human bones found in Running Springs
On Sept. 14, 2024, at 3:44 p.m., deputies from the Twin Peaks station were on proactive patrol in a closed area of Highway 330 when they located bones, which were later determined to be human. The Coroner’s Office also responded, collected the bones and are working to identify the person and a cause of death. The bones appear to have been in that location for an extended period of time and investigators do not believe the cause of death is related to the fire.
