Concordia University Irvine’s 32-member bell choir will be performing at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church this Sunday, Sept. 21, at all three services: 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. All of the mountain community is welcome to attend this special event.
The bell choir is enjoying a retreat at Mt. Calvary this weekend and will have their first performance as part of the regular Sunday worship. They will play five pieces at the end of each worship service including a variety of music – sacred, classical, modern and popular – using over 127 handbells and hand chimes, as well as other instruments.
Two touring ensembles, the Concert Handbells and Spirit Bells of Concordia University Irvine, led by award-winning composer Alex Guebert, are also included in the performance. These bell choirs are highly respected internationally for their performances. They have performed in in Asia, Europe and Australia as well as in 38 states and provinces of North America.
Concert Handbells performs the highest difficulty of handbell repertoire at a virtuosic level. They are also featured annually across the nation during the Concordia PBS Christmas Special.
