On the evening of Sept. 21, a fatal incident occurred on State Route 18 south of the Cliffhanger restaurant, prompting a significant response from local authorities. According to initial reports, a male individual was found lying in the roadway with no vehicle visible at the scene, leading responders to believe the person was struck by a passing car.
The incident was reported at approximately 7:32 p.m. and efforts to locate the vehicle involved have been unsuccessful so far, with no description of the suspected car available.

A recent motorcycle collision on Highway 18 near Crestline.
CHP Public Information Officer Devin Julien-Rohman explained that there had been a rash of motor vehicle accidents, including three motorcycle collisions, on Highway 18 in the past week, owing to the hard closure of State Route 330 ever since the advent of the Line Fire.
Due to the overcrowded lanes and slow pace of traffic, Julien-Rohman suggested that motorists drive carefully and go with the flow of traffic, or else leave for work earlier in the day and make your return trip up the mountain later in the evening.
“Many of these collisions are caused by excessive speed and unsafe lane changes, so slow down and pay attention,” said Officer Julien-Rohman.
