SkyPark at Santa’s Village was a sea of pink on Sunday, Oct. 6 as women and men walked to help raise awareness about breast cancer.

Members of Soroptimist International of Rim of the World sponsored A Walk in the Mountains, raising money for a new ultrasound machine for Mountains Community Hospital.

Cathy Kay, who organized the event with fellow Soroptimist Cheryl Robinson, said the ultrasound will serve as a second opinion – a double check – after a mammogram.

The walkers received commemorative T-shirts; they also received goodie bags, provided by Mountains Community Hospital. They could choose one of two routes – through the Meadowlands, decorated with scarecrows, or the Northwoods trail. Some opted to walk both trails.

The Soroptimists also had a number of decorated bras on display. Walkers were able to vote for their favorite, with the winner being named Breast of Show. The award went to a bra called “Don’t Roll the Dice – Check Them Twice.”

Two decorated bras – “Unlock the Cure” and “Save the Tutus” – were sold for $100 each, which will enable two women to have mammograms.

There was a table filled with raffle prizes and another with silent auction items.
