Local grief support group beginning

Mar 26, 2025 | Community News

The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you’ll learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same nor would you want to. – Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

To help those who are grieving through the process, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church offers a support group called GriefShare. The next GriefShare support group will start on Thursday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m.

There are 12 sessions of the program, which is open to everyone on the mountain.  Part of a national program called GriefShare, this group offers support for the mind, body and spirit in the dark season of grief.

The group will meet in the Ministry Center of the church, located behind Rim of the World High School.

What happens at a GriefShare support group?

Each week the GriefShare group will watch a video seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies, dramatic reenactments and on-location videos.

After viewing the video, the other group members will spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in their lives.

During the week, participants will have the opportunity to use their workbooks for further personal study of the grieving process and to help sort out their emotions through journaling. The group will spend time discussing questions and comments from the workbook study.

Who should come … who should not

GriefShare is for people grieving the death of a family member or friend. We understand that other losses in life create feelings of grief. You might be experiencing job loss, a divorce, estrangement from a child or the loss of friends because of a move. This grief is real, but it is not the kind of grief discussed in GriefShare sessions. We encourage you to ask a pastor, counselor or church leader for help in finding resources that will be of specific help in your situation. If you are going through separation or divorce, please consider participating in a DivorceCare program.

You are welcome to begin attending the GriefShare group at any session. Each is self-contained so you do not have to attend in sequence. You will find encouragement and help whenever you begin.

To register, call Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church at (909) 337-1412 and leave a message or attend the first session to see if this support group is for you. There is additional information on the church’s website, Mclutheran.com, under “Ministries.”
