In the market for fresh produce, herbal teas, handmade goods and more? The California Farmers Market Collective is holding the grand opening of its fourth farmers market on Easter Sunday, April 20, in the parking lot at Rim of the World High School.
The Collective also sponsors the markets in Twin Peaks, in Big Bear Lake and at St. Bernardine Medical Center.
The Rim of the World Farmers Market will be open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Collective has been working on opening this market for the past two years. They had heard from a number of people that they were disappointed they could not get to the Thursday market in Twin Peaks. There were already markets on Fridays (at Lake Gregory) and Saturdays (in Running Springs) so Sunday seemed the most logical day to add one.
Initially, there will be 20 to 30 vendors, with more expected to be added as time goes on. Ruya Tea will be there with the teas they blend in Cedarpines Park. There will be fresh produce and flowers as well as some handcrafted items.
There will be some crossover with the vendors from the Twin Peaks market. The Collective hopes the Rim of the World market will become the larger of the two. Unlike the Twin Peaks market, which is open year-round, the one at the high school will run through September or October.
Eventually there will be a variety of hot food for sale – barbecue, burgers, pizza, teriyaki chicken, tamales.
The Collective’s goal is to create a place for the community to gather on a Sunday, enjoy some live music, purchase some fresh produce and savor the view the high school provides of the valley below.
