The Crestline Chamber of Commerce, during its July public meeting, reviewed their past three weekends of events and the new events upcoming this summer. During the office manager’s report, they introduced new chamber member, Elite Altitude Training Center, located on Lake Drive at Wildrose Lane, and thanked those businesses that have already renewed their memberships, as July is membership renewal month for the Crestline Chamber of Commerce. The office manager stated that the renewal notices will be sent out by email during this next week. Membership in the Crestline Chamber of Commerce for a business is $150 a year, while for nonprofits it is $115 and, for an individual community member, membership is $50.
Dirk Rinker gave a wrap-up on the Jamboree Days weekend. First of all, he thanked all the volunteers who helped make it happen. The weekend had excellent weather, 53 entries in the parade, nine announcers along the route, a sheriff flyover at the start of the parade and over 4,000 copies of the parade program passed out. KOLA radio DJ Jesse Ventura was doing a live remote with contests for those watching him, winning fabulous prizes.
The crowd of 9,000 seemed to spend the day at the festival with its 35 vendors, enjoying the bands and the day in the mountains. Rinker thanked the 12 sponsors that enabled the event to occur. He said the traffic jam after the 9 p.m. fireworks lasted until almost 11 p.m., indicating it was well attended. Even the new restrooms on Lake Gregory’s north shore behind the chamber office were completed and opened in time for the fireworks visitors in that area.
The weekend prior to Jamboree Days was the community picnic and annual Duck Derby race. The picnic was a free, fun day for the community at the San Moritz Meadow with relay races and games. Following the picnic was the Duck Derby where some of the children got so involved, they were standing in the lake, encouraging the ducks to swim to the shore. The new racecourse was created by Rinker and Richard Bizzy.
Since next year will be America’s 250th anniversary and July 4 falls on s Saturday, the Jamboree Days celebration will need to be extra special. It has been decided that the Crestline fireworks show will be held on Friday night, July 3 at 9 p.m., with the parade the next morning, Saturday, July 4 at 10 a.m. with the Jamboree Days festival all day long. They are seeking volunteers to help plan the events, choose the special theme and possibly suggest new activities. They plan to hold the community picnic and Duck Derby the weekend before the Fourth of July, as they did this year.
Rinker thanked the grand marshals, Richard and Elizabeth Krumweide, thanked the Citizen of the Year,Carrie Forbear, and congratulated the Grand Poohbah, Allen Mairs, for their support of this year’s Jamboree Days.
The Market at Lake Gregory and Friday night concert on July 3 was the best attended so far this year, said Sara Green. “For those who find the south shore parking lot full, there is additional parking at both Lake Gregory’s north shore parking lot, the skate park and at the Crestline library,” she said.
The two Corks & Hops events Crestline has sponsored this summer, in June and July, were both successful said Chamber President Louis Boehle, with over 900 attending. The July theme was the “Disco 70s.” The theme for the Aug. 2 Corks & Hops will be “The 80s,” so come in costume and the music will reflect the era. Tickets sold online in advance receive a discount at www.corksnhops.com.
The chamber is looking forward to many more community events including the annual Top Town Fall Festival on Nov. 8.
During public comments, it was announced The Rim of the World Road Concert will feature Crestline Poet Candace Pearson and the Rim of the World Poets performing from noon to 4 p.m. at Heaps Peak Arboretum on July 26 and 27. All along Highway 18 that weekend there will be various artists and performers, so it is recommended that residents drive along the rim and stop to see those artists that interest them. Also, every weekend the free Mountain History Museum in Lake Arrowhead will be open.
The chamber’s next public chamber meeting will be on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at their office at 24385 Lake Drive on Lake Gregory’s north shore. The next night, Wednesday, Aug. 20, will be the Crestline Chamber mixer with the Rim of the World Recreation and Park District. For more information, call the chamber office during office hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
