Letter To The Editor

Oct 14, 2026 | Letters to the Editor

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this letter to express my distress and concern about the damage committed on the Manitoba Drive parcels adjacent to Willow Creek, a vital tributary of Deep Creek/Mojave River. There has been a complete clearing of at least 30 acres and the creation of artificial pools containing non-native fish.

The transitional zones between forest, creek and riparian areas are biodiverse. Those responsible have created a devastating environmental catastrophe. They have destroyed the “nursery” for countless species of plants and animals.

Those responsible have created a biological desert and have wiped out the life-cycles of thousands of species. This thoughtless environmental damage is irreparable. The illegal and brazen desecration of our important mountain environment should be abhorred by every citizen, organization and government body.

The county has a duty to address the violations per county, state and federal statutes, including site-stabilization and remediation to restore the ecological balance. Every citizen needs to contact their representatives to demand that they hold people responsible and demand restitution both physical and monetary.

Yours sincerely

Christine Smiley
