The California Highway Patrol’s Arrowhead Area office in Running Springs will be holding an open house and car show on Saturday, Sept. 18 and invites all to attend.

Public Information Officer Jacob Griede said the event will kick off at 10 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m. He anticipates a large crowd, since the free event was canceled last year due to COVID-19 restrictions. He advises those wanting to participate in the classic car show competition and show off their “cool ride” to reserve a spot as soon as possible because spaces are filling quickly. The car show is being presented this year by Mountain Troopers 865.

In addition to the car show, there will be static displays to explore, featuring fire engines, brush engines and other firefighting equipment from the neighboring Running Springs Fire Department, as well as a demonstration by one of the Inland Division’s drug-sniffing dogs, which can not only detect the scent of illegal drugs, but also latch onto and detain a suspect attempting to flee from authorities. The demonstration is always exciting and, although often seen on TV news clips, is rarely experienced in person.

There will be hot dogs, cooked to perfection by the agency’s best cooks, and non-alcoholic liquid refreshments at this family-friendly exposition.

For more details on the open house, contact the CHP office located at 31230 Hwy 18 in Running Springs or call them at (909) 867-2791 during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To register for the car show competition, write a check for $15 made out to Mountain Troopers 865 and mail it to P.O. Box 997, Running Springs, CA 92382.
