The eight students who make up the Rim High jazz band will offer something jazzy, something fun on Saturday, April 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa. This benefit performance is sponsored by the Blue Jay Jazz Foundation.

The musicians, said Kari Stebbing, the school’s music director, are a mix of experienced and non-experienced players.

“The jazz band has been through a lot of hurdles these past few years – and a lot of changes – so the Blue Jay Jazz Foundation is providing us with a wonderful opportunity to really prove our hard work and dedication to music,” Stebbing said.

“The students are absolutely thrilled to have an opportunity to perform in public!”

Stebbing added they plan to play combo-style jazz, which includes songs such as “Uncle Pep” by Len Pierro, as well as some jazz standards, such as “Take the A Train” by Billy Strayhorn and “Blue Monk” by Thelonious Monk.

This fundraiser will help the jazz band with much-needed band equipment, as well as repairs to existing equipment. The students also want to raise awareness in the community about music education.
Tickets ($10 cash or check) will be available at the door. Dessert and beverages will be available.
