To the editor: Lack of Trash Cans Around the Lake

Dec 7, 2023 | Editorial, Opinion

According to your Nov. 1, 2023, article, the members of the Lake Gregory Yacht Club, led by Rick Dinon, collected hundreds of pounds of trash lying around Crestline.

One of the reasons for so much trash is the lack of even one public trash can in Crestline. I sent a picture of a trashcan that can display advertising placards on its sides to the Crestline Chamber of Commerce a few months ago. The idea was well received by the Chamber members but shelved because no one wanted to pay Burrtec for collection of the trash, even though the advertising on the public trash cans by local businesses would provide revenue.

There is nowhere for the locals and tourists to discard their trash in Crestline, so people drop things on the sidewalks and in the gutter.

Other towns provide public trash cans, and I suggest that the Lake Gregory Yacht Club might want to use its influence with the Crestline Chamber of Commerce to correct the longstanding problem of no public trash cans in Crestline.

Advertising revenue from placards on the sides of the cans can cover the Burrtec trash collection costs, if someone has the common sense to set up a trash collection payment process. There are many types of advertising display public trash cans online.
