Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council (MRFSC) is pleased to share that it has been awarded $399,997 grant for Critical Infrastructure Fuel Reduction 2025 (Phase 2) recently through CalFire’s California Climate Investments Grant Program*.
This project will conduct intensive fuel reduction treatments in cooperation with community service districts (water, sewer, etc.). Contractors will perform deep fuel-load reduction in areas immediately surrounding critical infrastructure (water tanks, wells, pumps, treatment plants, etc.) to better protect our communities.
For the past three years, MRFSC executed the initial Critical Infrastructure Fuel Reduction Project, serving Green Valley Mutual Water, Running Springs Water District and, most recently, Crestline Sanitation District.
The initial five districts identified for Phase 2 are Arrowbear Park County Water District, Cedarpines Park Mutual Water Company, Camp Waterman Canyon Mutual Water Company, Smiley Park Country Club HOA Water and San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District.
There are additional community service providers which will be considered as remaining grant funds and timing allow.

* Critical Infrastructure Fuel Reduction 2025 is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide program that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing GHG emissions, strengthening the economy and improving public health and the environment, particularly in disadvantaged communities. The Cap-and-Trade program also creates a financial incentive for industries to invest in clean technologies and develop innovative ways to reduce pollution.
California Climate Investments projects include affordable housing, renewable energy, public transportation, zero-emission vehicles, environmental restoration, more sustainable agriculture, recycling and much more. At least 35 percent of these investments are located within and benefiting residents of disadvantaged communities, low-income communities and low-income households across California.
