Mountain Musings with Uncle Mott – Lightning Strikes

Feb 20, 2026 | Uncle Mott

Some folks love a rainy night. Me, I like a rainy night with a thunderstorm. Well, we had a humdinger the other day few weeks ago, what with the bolt that struck the bell in the belltower here at the stately Motley Manor.

And it’s a good thing there were no bats in my belfry, though I’ve been told that I do… Wait a durned tootin’ minute, I resemble that remark. Anyway, you should see the huge crack in the bell. Why, Ben Franklin would be rolling in his grave, if not in his latest girlfriend’s arms.

Nature’s takin’ over my one-track mind, all the girls are sayin’ that you’ll end up a fool. For the time being, baby, live by my rules If she’s put together, fine and readin’ my mind (stop) I can’t stop mysel,( stop) Lightning is striking again. Lightning is striking again and again and again. (“Lightning Strikes” – Lou Christie – 1982.)

This just in from the Mountaineer Weather Center: A flock of bats has just been sighted, heading for Uncle Mott’s belfry. Oh, no, not again! Hopefully, there won’t be any more lightning strikes on my belltower – or my belfry, for that matter.

Now it’s time for the latest report from our staff traffic reporter, Fred Friendly the Frivolous Freeway Flyer. “What’s up, Fred?” Well, it seems that there has been a freak accident on Lake Drive. “So, if you must know, Fred, two freaks on skateboards just ran into each other”

“Bazinga!” I got you on that one,” sez I.

Keep on flyin,’ (the flag, not the dang bats)
Uncle Mott
