The 15th season of First Fridays at The Lake House in Cedar Glen opened on July 5 with the art of Linda Brown and Lisa Mozzini-McDill featured.

Owner Robin Lyles wasn’t sure what to expect, with the Lake Arrowhead fireworks scheduled for that evening. However, folks flocked to the shop – part art gallery, part home décor boutique, part furniture store.

In fact, Lyles posted on Facebook that “it actually got so busy, we forgot to take any photos during the event!”

Each month, Lyles selects a local nonprofit to benefit from sales the night of the event. For July, it was the Blue Jay Jazz Foundation. President Chris Levister was there, with several of her board members. She thanked Lyles for “supporting us when we didn’t have a dime. Robin always says ‘yes.’”

Levister told the assembled art patrons that this year the Blue Jay Jazz Foundation will be awarding 10 scholarships to rising young jazz stars. “These kids are beside themselves,” she said as she noted they will be opening for Poncho Sanchez.

The Blue Jay Jazz Festival will take place on Aug. 22, 23 and 24; it will feature musicians Lee Ritenour and John Proulx, in addition to Sanchez. For information and tickets, visit www.bluejayjazz.org.

Lyles announced that next month’s First Friday sales will benefit a foundation set up in memory of Lauri Carleton, the late owner of Mag.pi in the Glen who was murdered last August. Lyles is spearheading the effort to create a memorial garden in the Glen for Carleton.

Should you have missed this first First Friday event, do not worry – the featured art will be on display all month long. “And, as always,” Lyles reminds everyone, “we’ll have the A/C on!”

The Lake House is located at 28966 Hook Creek Road and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Call (909) 337-7676 or visit www.lakehousecollection.com for more information.
