Soroptimist International of Rim of the World is pleased to again be able to offer to the mountain communities their Dutch Master and Red Devon daffodil bulbs, just in time and ready for fall planting. The Soroptimists have a project to beautify the communities as they are helping to create a “mountain of a million daffodils” to greet the spring.
The yellow trumpet Dutch Master grows to be 18 inches tall, with a deep golden trumpet, and has several flowers per bulb. They multiply freely each year and have a long blooming season. The flower blooms are large with trumpets as long as or longer than the flower petals. Their prices for 150 bulbs are $160; 100 bulbs for $110; and 50 bulbs for $60. Gophers do not like the taste of daffodils bulbs, so they ignore them in a garden, allowing the flowers to bloom year after year.
The Red Devon is a stunning flower that will bloom through spring. It has a center trumpet of red that is ideal for borders and rock gardens and for naturalizing in the landscape. For these bulbs the cost for 100 bulbs is $110; and for 50 bulbs it is $60. They are best planted in the fall.
Ordering the daffodil bulbs is easy through their website, https://www.sirow.org/daffodils-order-page. When the bulbs arrive in late September or early October, the Soroptimist members will deliver the bulbs to those local mountain residents who order them, so they recommend you add the address where you want them delivered when you order. When you order, you will receive a confirmation email of your order.
This fundraiser is designed to fund the many projects and local events that Soroptimst ROW supports, such as their “Every Girl Counts” program in the middle school and their mammo-grants for healthcare. This worldwide organization, which has been active in the Lake Arrowhead area since the 1980s, presents scholarships to Rim students and honors women in the community who stand out and assist others and who are in need of help to improve their family’s situation with their Ruby, Violet Richardson and Live Your Dream awards.
